The process
What are the four steps of the rental?
Choose your box and formula
Four individual box sizes and a numbered custody formula make up the range.
Prepare your identity document
A valid identity card or passport is enough: the exact list of documents is in the documents guide.
Travel to Dottignies (Mouscron)
From central Lille, about 30 minutes by car, 28 km, route estimate. Exact address: Rue Arthur Roelandt 22, 7711 Dottignies (Mouscron), Belgium.
Sign the contract on site
Signing happens on site, in twenty to thirty minutes: the visit walkthrough, minute by minute, is in the first visit guide.
Sizes and prices
Which box should you rent, and at what price?
Four box sizes, from €240 to €350 per year depending on height, plus numbered custody at €10 per month, all payable in advance: the full price list and dimensions are on the official rental page.
Payment and renewal
How do you pay and renew from France?
Payment is settled up front: in cash within the legal limits or by bank transfer, for one year or more. Renting the box requires no bank account: the rental is independent of any banking relationship.
From a French account, a transfer to a Belgian account is charged at the same rate as a domestic euro transfer: that is the European equal fees rule for euro payments within the Union. If you pay by transfer, the key handover and the opening of the box wait until the funds are credited.
One month before the year ends, a renewal invitation reaches you: everything is then settled from home, by email and transfer, or at the agency if you prefer. To end the contract, send a registered letter at least ten days before the due date; any year already begun remains payable, the contract being yearly and paid in advance.

What about legal and declaration questions?
They are outside this practical guide: legality, declaration and inheritance for a French resident are covered by the legal guide for French residents, which systematically refers to a notary, a lawyer or a tax adviser.
Frequently asked questions
Short answers about renting from France
Can everything be done remotely, without travelling to Belgium?
The request is made at the agency, by phone or through the form on the official page. Opening the contract takes three steps: choosing the box size, showing a valid identity document and signing the rental contract. From central Lille, the trip takes about 30 minutes by car, 28 km, route estimate, and the visit itself wraps up in twenty to thirty minutes on site.
Do you need a bank account, in France or in Belgium, to rent?
No bank account is required, in France or in Belgium: the rental is independent of any banking relationship. Payment is settled up front: in cash within the legal limits or by bank transfer, for one year or more. Under European payment rules, a transfer from a French account to Belgium costs the same as a domestic euro transfer. Renewal is then handled remotely, by email and transfer, or at the agency.
Do you have to come back on site to renew?
No: one month before the year ends, a renewal invitation reaches you, and everything is settled from home, by email and transfer. Coming to the agency remains possible during opening hours, for those who prefer to handle their file in person.
Do you have to live near the border to rent in Belgium?
No. The rental is open to all nationalities and no proof of address is requested: a resident of Lille or Lyon rents under the same conditions, with a valid identity card or passport. The yearly renewal is handled remotely, by email and bank transfer.
Is the contract yearly even for a French resident?
Yes: the contract is yearly and payable in advance, and there is no weekly or monthly formula for the boxes. If you leave mid-year, a registered letter sent at least ten days before the due date ends the contract, and any year already begun remains payable.
Does the rental also work for a French business?
Yes: the rental is open to individuals and professionals alike, whatever the nationality, with the same valid identity document and no bank account. A French business can therefore rent a box for its sensitive documents, its currency or its stocks of precious metals under the same conditions as an individual: contract signed on site in twenty to thirty minutes, immediate access, advance payment for the year. A company proxy can be appointed free of charge, and replaced at any time.
The opening request is made at the agency, by phone or through the form on the official website. Signing happens on site, in Dottignies (Mouscron), in twenty to thirty minutes.
